Melett is delighted to be awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the category of International Trade. The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is the most prestigious accolade for businesses and individuals in the United Kingdom.
To receive the International Trade Award, a company must show a substantial and sustained increase in export over three consecutive 12-month periods, to a level which is outstanding for the products and services concerned, and for the size of the organisation.
Founded in 1995, Melett was acquired in 2002 by the current owner and Managing Director, Ian Warhurst – a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The business, and its’ success, is built on strong engineering principles and strict quality control processes with all parts being engineered in the UK.
In a rapidly developing global market, Melett has seen strong growth in recent years as it has supported the development of its customer base. In order to keep ahead Melett has invested heavily in its premises and manufacturing facilities, supply chain, distribution, product database and employees. This investment has included the opening of new operations in North America, Latin America, China and Europe as well as significant expansion at its UK facilities.
Whilst the business is headquartered in the UK, the majority of Melett’s sales are to overseas customers. Melett has exported to over 100 countries, including all except two of the countries in the EU. Melett does not view the European market as a particularly difficult one to operate in and considers it as part of its home market. Expansion further afield has required significant commitment to researching markets, understanding cultures and building relationships with key partners.
With significant growth forecast for the global turbocharger market for years to come, Melett is well placed to continue its own growth story.
